The Art of the Comic

Screenprinter John Patrick Reynolds makes limited edition screenprints by hand, specialising in images of classic comic characters. 

 
What makes Reynold's subject matter fascinating and unique is that he's the first artist to have obtained permission from DC Thomson to make screenprints using its unrivalled archive of old comic heroes and heroines, from Dennis the Menace and his faithful dog Gnasher, Desperate Dan, Minnie the Minx and the Bash St Kids. He's also managed to persuade DC to include boys' own adventure heroes from comics such as The Victor and Commando, and forgotten gems such as the Golden Heart Love stories.
 
The images are printed with pigment-rich inks which create a wonderful vibrancy on the beautiful mould-made cotton paper.
 
Hurricane!
 
This screenprint shows the Hurricane fighter aircraft from the Second World War, in lethal form. The Hurricane was the RAF's main warhorse during the Battle of Britain. The image started life as a panel in Commando! comic.

Roasting them Spuds
 
This screenprint shows two characters in a romantic clinch, from Roy Lichtenstein's era of the early sixties, speaking very British dialogue. The image started life as a panel in the Golden Heart Love comic in the early 1960s ... and the speech bubbles are exactly as they were.

The image started life as a panel in The Victor comic annual from the 1960s. It shows a dynamic yet laconic soldier about to rescue his comrades. However, the sentiment is surely applicable in pretty much any context.

Got to Keep Going
 
This screenprint shows Alf Tupper, the flagship character in The Victor comic, in typically dogged mood. He was known as The Tough of The Track, as he was a gritty competitor, but also came from the wrong side of the tracks and was always getting into scrapes with posher competitors.
You don't have to be a Tupper lover to appreciate the the grit which all middle-distance runners have to have and which Alf personifies. The image started life as a panel in The Victor comic.

Quinting Watches at Geneva Time Exhibition 2012

Quinting Manufacture d'Horlogerie, the luxurious Swiss and global brand creator of the first and only 100% transparent watch in the world was in the vanguard of the Geneva Time Exhibition 2012 (GTE 2012), from the 15th - 20th January 2012.

The third session of the GTE 2012 was held under the motto "The Art of Making Time ". It was interesting for representatives of the watch industry, collectors and the press because independent manufacturers presented their news without input from the marketing departments, as do the best luxury companies, because they create their products for the sake of pure watchmaking. The main advantage of independent watchmakers for distributors is that they offers unique products that have better specifications than brands belonging to large luxury corporations. The exclusive items created by hand in limited series by great watchmakers, enamelers and artists are also attractive for collectors.

The Quinting was one of the most notable with its watch collection equipped with unique transparent sapphire movements. It presented sophisticated models belonging to the Art Collection.

Quinting 100% transparent watches with a layered sapphire movement are a blank canvas for original art. With our artists's skills and creativity we were able to create hand-painted, stunning one-of-a-kind pieces. The enamel used on Quinting watches provides a different effect than when used on any other. Our watches have internal discs made of sapphire, as eternal as diamonds. The paintings last forever, similar to stained glass one may find in the oldest cathedrals, but all the more durable.

Each unique watch frames an original work of art. The paintings were made using the finest materials. A steady hand, a special paint brush and high quality enamel paint give a colourful new life to Quinting watches.
The unique Quinting movement is composed of a superposition of sapphire discs (the distance between each sapphire measures 0.08 to 0.10 mm) which was a real sensation not only for the media, but also for potential customers.

Due to the complexity of the assembly which requires special optical instruments, microscopes, and surgically clean sterile rooms, it is impossible to copy the Quinting watches.

They are instantly recognisable on the wrist which makes them attractive and popular for buyers who appreciate exclusivity.
